Ra or Re is the anicient god of the sun. During the Fifth Dynasty he had become a major deity in ancient Egyptian Religion. No one quite knows what his name means, many say it could possibly be "sun" where as others think it may mean "Creative Power" or just "Creator".

The center of Ra's cult was Heliopolis meaning "Place of Pillars" where he was identified with the sun god Atum. Through. Known as Atum-Ra he was also seen as the very first being and the creator of the Ennead: Shu and Tefnut who gave birth to Geb and Nut who gave birth to Osiris, Set, Isis, Nepthys, and in some legends Horus.

Mnevis Bull was an embodiment of Ra, its center in Heliopolis and there was the formal burial ground for the sacrificed bulls killed north of the city

In ancient Egyptian belief all forms of life were believed to to have been the children of Ra, who called each of them into existence by saying their secret names. Humans were created from the tears and sweat that dripped off Ra's body, hence the Egyptians call themselves the "Cattle of Ra".
