Anubis (Dog or jackal god of embalming and tomb-caretaker who watches over the dead)Edit

Anubis is the jackal headed god of embalming and tomb care. Anubis in Egyptian mythology is considered the guardian or protector of the dead who is thought to watch over the dead in the after life.

When the pharoh is buried it's insides are placed in canopic jars one of which has the design of Anubis' head.
